We have sad news to announce today. We’ve just received word from Ray Stokes that the “Emma of Lulworth Cove” movie will not be moving forward. “Unfortunately,” Mr. Stokes told Feltbeats.com, “due to the world economy, it would seem very unlikely we will be able to raise the necessary funds to go ahead with this feature.”
Until very recently, buzz surrounding the planned movie (mostly generated by the Tom Felton fan community), was very high, and the “I want to see the Emma movie” marketing campaign started by Feltbeats.com generated more than a quarter of a million page impressions on the movie’s IMDB.com page. Mr. Stokes did have several likely investors initially – at times reportedly nearing the $5 million mark in terms of promised investment. But, as the economy slowed, that funding fell away.
Mr. Stokes said he was very appreciative of Tom Felton’s patience and professionalism, and regrets not being able to work with him more closely. Tom’s relationship to this movie was, of course, the main source of the excitement surrounding this film and was what Mr. Stokes referred to as his “ace in the hole.”
In addition, Mr. Stokes let us know that his production company, Newcomen Productions Ltd., has been dissolved.
As for the “Emma of Lulworth Cove” graphics contest winners, we will announce places tomorrow night, and will prominently feature the winners on the front page of Feltbeats.com in lieu of the “Emma of Lulworth Cove” site.
