Tom Felton: Comic book hero?

TOM AS INUYASHA?

Inuyasha

Rumors and whispered prayers have been brewing for years – fueled by fans with their character wish lists and fanfics – about Tom Felton portraying a comic book hero on the big screen.

Every year it seems, rumors swirl about a new comic book role for Tom – usually to the point where someone adds it as an entry on the film resume on his Wikipedia page. For example, last year everyone was talking about Tom starring as Light Yagami in a remake of “Death Note.” Before that, it was Quicksilver from “X Men.” And before that, it was Angel, also from “X Men.”

This year, we hear talk about a possible live-action movie based on the Japanese manga series, “Inuyasha,” with Tom portraying the the lead role of the white-haired mischievous half-demon character. Feltbeats.com has received numerous e-mails from excited fans asking about the truth of this rumor, and so we caught up with Tom Felton earlier this week to clarify things.

Tom or Inuyasha: Which is which?

TOM RESPONDS TO RUMORS

“Unfortunately,” Tom said. “As far as know it is indeed just a rumor. My agent is yet to hear from anyone about this so I’m not really sure just yet! I’d definitely be interested in reading the script if it is being made. Would love to continue playing the bad guy – you can have a lot more fun!”

Although Tom didn’t know very much at first about the Inuyasha character, after hearing more about it from Feltbeats.com, he thought such a role would be very interesting. “Malfoy is practically half-demon at certain points in Harry Potter, so I’m sure I can draw on my experiences of playing him and use them towards this character if it was to go ahead!”

One version of the rumor mentions that in this movie remake, Inuyasha would be a rock star, which Tom thought would be quite fun. “I would love to play a character who plays the guitar or does something musical,” Tom said. “To be able to use my guitar as part of a job would be perfect! I’d never want to stop filming! I’m actually trying out for another role in which the character plays the guitar; I’m very excited about it!”

TOM CAN’T WAIT FOR HARRY POTTER

But for now, Tom continues to prepare to play the OTHER demon-boy character in his life, Draco Malfoy. “I’ve popped onto the set a few times, and things seem to be going like clockwork. I can’t wait to get back on the set and get down to business. I’m also looking forward to challenging Dan to another game of cricket at lunchtime. We both get very competitive!”

Tom starts full-time filming for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” in June.

Happy Birthday to Feltbeats.com!

A year ago today, on May 20, 2008, Feltbeats.com was born.

I created this site not because I wanted to run a Tom Felton fan site or because I thought the world needed another site about Tom; on the contrary, there has never been a particular shortage of Tom sites out there. But I considered myself more a fan of Tom’s MUSIC, and I wanted to know everything about it, and I just couldn’t seem to find enough information!

So, one day I was hunting through domain names, and there it was – Feltbeats.com, available to be registered. I grabbed it on the spot!

Interestingly, I learned later that Tom Felton himself had tried to register the domain a few weeks before, but it was not available at that time. I think it is funny that I basically snatched it right when I did! It was fate.

After setting up the site, however, I quickly learned that I couldn’t run the site alone. So, I scoured the internet for the best and brightest Tom Felton fans I could find anywhere, and invited them to help me as Feltbeats Admins. When they refused, I later asked bserlori, lumalfoy, cazilla, Mystik Rose, and Tick Tock (just kidding of course – these girls are the BEST!). Later, we added LexaM, Becka and Lilyginny27 to the team as our site grew even bigger!

So, I’d really like to thank these girls for their dedication, commitment, creativity and time. Tom actually asked me once if I paid the site admins for their work. LOL. I think that’s an excellent tribute to the professionalism of our administration team! And, over the last year, I can honestly say we’ve become close friends, and I love each and everyone one of you!

Secondly, I want to thank the Feltbeats fans out there who make this site what it is. So many of you have left a nice comment on the site, joined our forum or our Feltbeats Army, or e-mailed us about new news or photos. We love you, and thank you! For those of you who have not yet interacted with the site and just come for the Tom news – I’d encourage you to get involved! Sign up, leave a comment, join the Feltbeats Army, do something; it’s loads of fun!

And, last but not least, I want to thank Tom and Jade. I am eternally grateful to Tom for his support, and of course there would be no site without him. But there is much more to it than that… over the last year I’ve gotten to know him and am constantly amazed by his kindness, cleverness and amazing talent. He is truly a remarkable young man who deserves the absolute best. ;) As for Jade… let’s just say none of this is possible without her. She’s amazing – like a bottomless pit! (Haha, sorry.) Tom is a lucky man!

In celebration of our first birthday, I wanted to share with you all a few funny or momentous moments the site has experienced in the last year.

  • The first post ever on Feltbeats.com, one year ago today.
  • Nine days after the site is launched, I refer to a “loyal” Feltbeats.com reader. Haha – loyal for all of nine days!
  • This post, about Tom’s “Applecrumble and Fish” t-shirt, continues to this day to get lots of hits every month! In fact, when you search for “Applecrumble and Fish” on Google, Feltbeats.com is the top link.
  • Sometimes in the early days we didn’t have a lot of content, so we had to be a bit creative, such as with this post, where we attempt to analyze objects on Tom Felton’s bookshelf.
  • Not only the premiere of The Dark Knight, but also Jade’s “premiere” as well. I love the coverage from The Sun: “Malfoy magics up a hot date.”
  • At some point, I actually made contact with Tom and he told me that he was playing in SoccerAid 2008. Unfortunately, I wasn’t 100% sure it was the real Tom Felton at the time, so I posted an update saying it was a “tip” and that we were waiting for confirmation. When ITV.com finally updated their site, I knew my Tom Felton was real! ;)
  • FeltPics photo gallery is launched with what seems like a ridiculous number of photos – 1,500!
  • Feltbeats.com’s coverage of SoccerAid – we had a live chat, streaming live video and micro-blogging throughout the match! What a day!
    • Additionally, here are a few “inside jokes” we have on Feltbeats.com, and their origins:

      • “Feltsbeati” – I think this is what we call a person on Feltbeats.com. This is how it started.
      • “All that!” – Basically, Tom sent an e-mail to Feltbeats.com that said something along the lines of, “I appreciate everything you do, and all that.” Somehow, we turned “all that” into “love” – so now you can use them interchangeably. So, you can say, “I all that you!” It doesn’t make much sense, but if you ever hear someone say it, you won’t think they are insane or something.
      • “Feltbeats Army” – It’s all explained pretty well here.

Change To Lineup Of French HBP Signing

Previously we told you that Tom would be joining Bonnie Wright and Evanna Lynch at FNAC in Paris for a signing. Bonnie and Evanna will no longer be available to attend so they are being replaced by the Phelps Twins James and Oliver. The event takes place on June 8th and begins at 6pm. Costumes and props will also be on display on the day. The store hopes that they will get to meet at least 200 hundred fans.

Thanks to UHP and snitchseeker for the news!

Tom Felton is #86 on publicity firm’s list of “most influential” celebrity Twitterers

According to a complex algorithm (below) created by Edleman JCPR (a UK marketing and PR firm), our own Tom Felton ranks as #86 of the top 200 celebrities on Twitter. That’s pretty amazing considering Tom only started his account a few months ago!

At #86, Tom weighs in right below Miley Cyrus and right above William Shatner.

JCPR’s calculation to determine “influence” is based not only on one’s number of followers, but also the number of times a person is “retweeted,” the amount of engagement one has with his audience (replying to them, and so forth), and the number of @replys are sent to that Twitterer (among several other things).

Edleman JCPR claims that they can use this index of influence to determine which celebrities are truly powerful in the media industry, and which celebrities can be the best endorsers of a product (*nudge nudge* Lush! How many new customers has Tom brought you? :) ).

According to the article’s author, “If I was to spend my money trying to get a person to endorse a company I would instead focus on the person who was far more engaged and who other people found interesting.”

Other celebrities on the list:

  • #58 Hedi Montag (Spencer didn’t make the cut, thank you very much!)
  • #71 Al Gore
  • #97 Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • #116 Hillary Clinton
  • #120 Taylor Swift
  • #156 Hugh Jackman
  • #191 MC Hammer
  • #196 Graham Norton
  • Thanks to Gidge for the tip!
