Tom Felton Tidbits & Clips from Around the Web

It’s been a busy week for Tom related news and videos, and we here at Feltbeats.com strive to keep you up to date with all the latest in Tom related goodness. From tweets to fan videos to interviews, we have it all.

First up, MTV.com featured Tom’s tweets concerning his dye-job for Draco’s new ‘do in their Twitter-wood movie blog. Inquiring minds will be happy to note that the dye process has been completed, and Tom will be making his first on-camera take as Draco in the Deathly Hallow films tomorrow.

From Tom’s Twitter account:

Morning all! So they had to dye it 4 times until it was white enough! My patience was wearing thin! All done now and ready to shoot tomorrow.

In related news, Harry Potter Producer David Heyman had this to say about Tom in a recent interview with Film Journal International.

“Tom has been in all the films,” says Heyman, “and it’s wonderful for him—in this film particularly—to have something to flex his acting muscles. I think it is a more nuanced performance because he has much more to do.”

Speaking of Harry Potter news, upset you won’t be able to make the London premiere on 7 July? No worries! Warner Brothers has announced that they will be streaming the premiere online so all you at home will be able to watch as Tom and the gang walk the red carpet. The live feed will begin at 6pm BST (1pm EST) and can be found via the Livestream website. Planning on making the event live, in person? Want to support Tom and Feltbeats.com? Check out the Feltbeats Forum for information on which Feltbeats Army members will be attending and how you can join in the fun. Planning on attending the premiere in New York on 9 July instead? Contact Feltbeats Admin BSerLori for information on how you, too, can join the Feltbeats Army as they invade New York.

And last, but not least, we have a fan-made video of Tom greeting fans in Leicester Square for the Harry Potter tour event. I think he realizes he was being watched. ;)

Thanks, Estrella89san, for sending in the video.

Reader’s digest a new interview by Tom Felton

As Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince nears its premiere, more interviews are released making extra Tom news the icing on the cake. Today’s interview is featured in the Reader’s Digest, July 2009 UK edition. In the interview, Tom mentions working with Michael Gambon for the first time, his wonder at the lack of brothel-going by his co-stars, and why driving the M25 brings the Draco out in him.

Tom gave this interview shortly after his trip to Majorca for the Pirates Adventure fundraising event held for the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, and the students he references are the one’s that interviewed him there.

“This was the first film where I was involved in the filming from start to finish and got to work closely with actors like Michael Gambon,” he says. “You have a certain sympathy for Draco because he’s just a child whose father Lucius has been in prison and has a huge mental battle with the task he’s been given. But this time he doesn’t just express his fragility by calling Harry an idiot. He breaks his nose.” Tom warms to his theme. “Filming that was cool. We had Dan [Daniel Radcliffe] lying on the floor with my foot just above his head, not quite hitting him. There were a couple of times I was tempted to lay the…nah, bless him, I didn’t touch him. He clearly loves playing the bad guy. “I get to act like a complete git. Who wouldn’t want that? It’s great fun scaring kids. I did an interview with a classroom of about 12 of them the other day and there was ten minutes of silence when they were keeping their eyes on me, not daring to speak. When youngsters are invited on set, they run up and hug Dan, but I don’t get any of that.”

The Half-Blood Prince, with its dramatic deaths and romantic liaisons for several of the characters, is a grown-up film, reflecting how Radcliffe, Rupert Grint , Emma Watson and the rest of the cast have now become young adults. Tom is pleasantly surprised by how well everyone has turned out. “It seemed a certain bet that one of them would end up being a wild card, photographed at a brothel in Amsterdam. But they’ve all got their heads screwed on. I half-expected Dan to be a bit up in the air with it all, but he’s untainted. He never spends any money. You go round his house to watch The Apprentice and you could be with any other guy.”

It does seem, however, that girls like a bad boy. “Oh, there’s plenty of interest, not from actual women, but from the youngsters of the world. I like to think that it’s a purely aesthetic attraction, rather than Draco’s personality.” But although mischief flashes across his face as he describes his dubious alter ego, one is struck by how well adjusted and charming he is for a young man who’s spent his adolescence as a world-famous film character. ”As an actor, you get pleasure from doing something that’s completely different to who you are. I occasionally find myself acting like Draco, though it’s usually nothing magical, but something to do with roads. My girlfriend Jade lives in north London and I live near Dorking so I spend a lot of time on the M25. Junction 9 at Leatherhead, that can be a killer.”

Fan reactions & new pics of Tom Felton from “The Disappeared” Q&A session

Tom’s Twitter Account received a variety of responses from people in attendance last night at the showing he attended for his film The Disappeared. All accounts were favorable, and this morning I was able to chat with user @HarryFerguson, aka Martyn for a more thorough reaction upon meeting Tom.

“I’ve seen him in a few interviews”, said Martyn by way of email, “and I’ve always said he seemed really down to earth and genuine, now after talking to him I can say that I *know* he is. We talked about his music and how it was people like him that inspire me to play more and that it was thanks to him that I got into acting. I bumped into him outside before the showing and he very kindly signed a model guitar I had. Then again after the film.”

Martyn, I learned, is so truly inspired by Tom that he even did a cover of Tom’s Time Isn’t Healing for his YouTube channel. “It was only basic chords with me singing, though I’m working on learning the finger picking that Tom used. I’m also working on a cover of If You Could Be Anywhere.” [Editor's Note: After he returned home, Tom watched Martyn's cover on YouTube and even left him a lovely comment "Great job Harry. Was great to meet you last night. All the best buddy x"]

As Tom is a musical inspiration for this 19 year old student, I asked him what brought him out to meet him in person. “I don’t normally go for horror films,” stated Martyn. “But this one grabbed me so much I HAD to see it. It was fantastic, never a dull moment. There was a Q&A afterwards but I didn’t speak to them directly. Mum asked everyone a question, though. I was going to but thought it’d be rude if we both took up some of the question time.”

As many of you remember, Tom experienced the horrors of bleach upon his hair yesterday for his role of Draco Malfoy in the final installments of the Harry Potter saga. As such, I asked Martyn his reaction to the new ‘do. “After growing up around the Harry ‘world’ so to speak,” he said. “It seemed natural to see it like that. It was weird seeing it so short in the film though. I just hope the bleach doesn’t do any permanent damage!”

From what Tom has stated on his Twitter, he feels the same way. ;)

To round out the evening, Twitter user @Tomsgal, aka Tina, was able to share with us some photos from the Question and Answer period of the event. Her reaction to the film was similar to Martyn’s – “Liked it. I loved it.”

The Disappeared will be showing at the ICA in London through 4 July. If reactions are anything to go by, it’s one not to miss.

Thanks, Martyn and Tina
